About Aspotogan
Aspotogan is a small
fishing
community in the
Canadian
province of
Nova Scotia, located in the
Chester Municipal District on the
Aspotogan Peninsula.
Aspotogan is at the head of
Aspotogan Harbour, which gets its name from the
Mi'kmaq Ashmutogun or Ukpudeskakun meaning "block the
passage way" or "where the seals go in and out".

A Beautiful and Scenic Area!
Situated on the scenic 'Lighthouse Route' of Nova Scotia, this peninsula is

Driving Directions
Travelling north to Northwest
Cove (ie: from Lunenburg/Bridgewater)
Via Highway #103:
Travel north on Highway #103 towards Halifax, leaving the highway at
Exit 7. At the T junction with Highway #3, turn left (towards Hubbards) and then
right at the next crossroads (East River). You are now on Highway #329 heading
towards Blandford. Drive through Deep Cove, Blandford, Bayswater and the tiny
community of Aspotogan. Just as you reach Northwest Cove, there is a small white
church on the left with a low white building adjacent to it: this is the Ocean
Swells Community Centre. There is ample parking in front of Ocean Swells.
Via Highway #3 (the old highway):
Take Highway #3 from Lunenburg north towards Mahone Bay. Continue on
Highway #3 through the communities of Martins River, Western Shore, Chester
Basin, Chester, etc, until you come to the junction with Highway #329 at East
River; turn right and head towards Blandford. Drive through Deep Cove,
Blandford, Bayswater and the tiny community of Aspotogan. Just as you reach
Northwest Cove, there is a small white church on the left with a low white
building adjacent to it: this is the Ocean Swells Community Centre. There is
ample parking in front of Ocean Swells.
Travelling south to Northwest Cove (ie: from Halifax)
Via Highway #103:
Take highway #103 out of Halifax, south towards the South Shore (and Yarmouth).
Leave the highway at exit 6 and head towards Hubbards. At the crossroads with
highway #329 (there is a Pharmasave on one corner and an Irving's gas station on
another), turn right on highway #329 towards Bayswater and Blandford. You will
travel through the fishing communities of Fox Point, Mill Cove, Birchy Head, The
Lodge, and finally Northwest Cove. Just as you leave Northwest Cove, after
coming up a steep hill, you will see a small white community centre on the
right, next to the small white church of St Cuthbert's. This is Ocean Swells
Community Centre. There is ample parking in front of Ocean Swells.
Via Highway #3 (the old highway):
Take highway #103 out of Halifax, south towards the South Shore (and Yarmouth);
exit at Tantallon (exit 5) and head left towards highway #3. At the crossroads
with highway #3 (Atlantic Superstore is in front of you), turn right and
continue out towards the South Shore. You will pass through Head of St
Margaret's Bay, Boutiliers Point, Ingramport, Black Point, and Queensland. When
you get to Hubbards, turn left onto highway #329 towards Bayswater and
Blandford: you can either do this just before you reach the Trellis Cafe, or the
next left at the crossroads with the Pharmasave and Irving's. You will travel
through the fishing communities of Fox Point, Mill Cove, Birchy Head, The Lodge,
and finally Northwest Cove. Just as you leave Northwest Cove, after coming up a
steep hill, you will see a small white community centre on the right, next to
the small white church of St Cuthbert's. This is Ocean Swells Community Centre.
There is ample parking in front of Ocean Swells.
