Bio
Info
Marie-Christine Delanee was born in France where she lived her first 21 years
the shore of Normandie in the Baie of Mont St Michel. Even though she is not
very old yet, she cannot remember when she started to draw and paint, she
probably always did.
She describes herself more as a self-taught artist because she got her formal
education (B.F.A. and B.A.E.) well after she had been painting and drawing for a
living for 7 years on the North Shore of the St Lawrence River in Quebec where
she was also fishing and living without running water or electricity in the
small camp she built with fire wood and the boyfriend of that time.
Then, tired of struggling for a living she decided to go to university and learn
as many art techniques as she could. That did not really happen; instead she
learned to develop her personality and a technique of her own.
After her B.F.A. she wondered what she could do to earn money and continue her
art. A degree in education seemed logical and it happened that she did like
teaching art.
Unfortunately, she realized teaching in elementary and high schools in Nova
Scotia did not give any time for anything else. For a few years she struggled
again to keep painting while earning a living, then she got hired by the
Department of Education to design the art program for the Francophone schools.
She finally had her week-ends to paint.
Since then, she takes a year off every 3 years for traveling and painting. When
she is teaching, she and her students inspire each other by doing art everyday
and with every academic subject.
If sometimes her work seems to belong to different artists it is because she
gets bored easily doing the same thing and she likes to experiment with
different mediums and different techniques in bright colors. Her inspiration
comes from her love of nature.
