Artist Statement:

Art permits us to experience the world through a different pair of eyes and lose ourselves in the interpretation we give to the art we admire. As an artist I feel very fortunate to be able to explore and express my cognitive and emotional experiences of the subjects that move me and relay these through paint and drawing. St. Margaret's Bay has provided those wonderful meditative experiences which you see in these works. I am influenced and guided by nature and our planet Earth, precious home to all of us.

Bio Info

I grew up in New Brunswick, however my ancestral roots are in Melanson Settlement near Port Royal. I have been living in Nova Scotia since 1985 and have been living in Boutiliers Point on St. Margaret's Bay since 2000 with my husband Mike Murphy.
Upon graduation from high school, I was torn between going into fine arts or science. I decided to study science and completed a B.Sc. in biology and then a Bachelors degree in education and eventually an M.Ed.
After a 35 year work career in the public and private sectors I am now finally concentrating all my time exploring my life passion: creating art, an interest that began in childhood. I have taken numerous art classes beginning in high school, at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and, other learning workshops along the way from artists I admire.
My art is a journey of expressions and explorations. I see incredible colours and forms in all that I observe and see life and beauty in everything (the biologist in me). The rocks, waves and fog in St Margaret's Bay provide the perfect atmosphere for introspection and inspiration. I work in watercolour, ink, acrylic and oil pastel and most of all, I like mixing and experimenting.
