Artist Statement:

When I draw or paint a subject, whether a river or an animal portrait, I try to portray its inner essence, its spirit, so to speak.  Since this is what draws me to a subject to begin with, I feel it's very important that I work at a piece until I have captured this feeling.  When the viewer can also feel this presence, I consider the work a success.
