Artist Statement:
Art is a way of expressing on paper or canvas my own unique view of
the Nova Scotia coastline, flowers, birds and other parts of the
world I have explored. Since 1998 I have experimented with various
media and techniques to capture seascapes or the beauty in nature.
The transparency of watercolour enables me to capture subtle moods
and delicate shapes. I enjoy acrylics for daring use of color and
dramatic impact. I have a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment
when a viewer thinks I have captured something meaningful to them in
one of my paintings.

Bio
Info
Watercolour lessons on a wharf in St. Margaret's Bay in 1998 launched me on
my journey as an artist. That summer I learned the basics in colour theory and
watercolour art while my son took sailing lessons. Since then I have taken
classes and painted regularly with art groups in Ontario and Nova Scotia. I have
exhibited at Brampton City Hall, Beaux Arts Brampton Gallery, in the Aspotogan
Arts and Crafts Annual Shows, Hub-Arts, and many other local venues.
I was born in Annapolis Royal, lived in Dartmouth during my youth and relocated
to Ontario where earned degrees from Carlton, Queens and York universities. I
taught French in Brampton from 1976 to 2005. After a 26-year teaching career I
returned with my husband, Michael, to Nova Scotia where we settled in a home
overlooking St Margaret's Bay. Since retiring I have devoted my time to
improving my painting skills through classes at NSCAD, numerous workshops and
art trips to Grand Manan and Southwest France.
My husband and I are avid bird watchers. I use my camera to capture the natural
beauty I encounter on our coastal walks and woodland hikes. Then using
watercolour, ink and acrylic I commit my favourite images of sea, sky and
wildlife to paper and canvas. I love to paint the boats, seashores and islands
of St. Margaret's and Mahone Bays. My art is based on realism using vivid colour
and captures the changing moods of each season.
During my last eight years in Brampton I painted weekly with the North Brampton
Watercolour Society. Since moving to Nova Scotia in 2005 I have served in
various roles in the Aspotogan Arts and Crafts, helping with group shows and
coordinating the membership of 50 artists.
I recently took part in "Paint Peggy's Cove" and the "Peggy's Cove Studio Art
Tour" for which my painting was given as the tour prize. I have had the pleasure
of showing and selling my paintings of local scenery at the Trellis Cafe during
August in 2009, 2010 and 2011. My watercolour and acrylic paintings can be found
in collections across Canada, in the USA and in Europe.
