Beth Lenco

One day in 1992, while hitchhiking in the northern Okanagan, a couple picked me up on their way to art school in Kelowna. Without any previous art experience, I went with them, and enrolled for the following year. In 1998, I completed my Fine Arts Degree at NSCAD in Halifax, during which time my father died of cancer. Helping my father cross over allowed a deeper access with the world of spirit, which affected my art greatly.
The two decades since art school, has been a time of exploring how the unseen forces play out in life and art. I am a person that needs to understand these cycles and forces of creative energy, so my art exploration includes the study of energy and spirit.

If I could describe the spirit world in painting terms, it would be LUMINOSITY. An inner light of feeling that shines though everything. Nature holds great interest to me, as it carries the strongest luminous life energy. Colour expresses this energy as can abstract art. Often times I will be out in nature for hours or days, and then come into my studio and paint abstractly from the energy that I have built and stored from my connections with the natural world.
