Janet Rimmington
When Janet first picked up paint brushes, she reached for watercolour. There is pleasure in using water to blend the colours to create a soft, soothing effect. So, when she tried her hand at acrylics she found herself usings some of the same techniques. She tends to blend and soften the lines rather than use bold brush strokes as she paints some of her favourite subjects such as a bird, a bee, a flower, a landscape, the seaside. Janet expects to see similar effects as she explores Ink & Wash with architecture.
Primarily self-taught, Janet has enhanced her work through workshops with J’anna Jacquline (watercolour), Zehava Power (acrylic), Wes Lowe (acrylic), Anya Holloway (watercolour) and Frans Aeyelts (watercolour). Capturing light is always a focus of Janet’s work. It is the play of light on a subject that inspires her; and when successfully reflected in artwork, it is the light that brings a piece to life. Janet’s artwork has exhibited at the Lunenburg Art Gallery, The East Wind Gallery (Mahone Bay), The LaHave Bakery Gallery, The Barn Coffee Shop & Social House, The Hubbards Cove Coffee shop, the European Pantry (Halifax), and the Mahone Bay Mini Gallery. A member of the Lunenburg Art Gallery and the Aspotogan Arts & Crafts Group, Janet also very much enjoys her association with the Lunenburg County Plein Air Group.
Her art has found homes in collections throughout Canada, in the US and the UK. As a long-time resident of Lunenburg County, Janet counts herself blessed to be surrounded by so much natural beauty. Some days it seems that round every corner she is reminded that there are “so many paintings - so little time!”
