Mieke Martin-Soontiens (Clay)
I came onto pottery by chance. The summer of 1978 we moved from Nova Scotia to Ontario. A huge life altering change for me After 20 years working for the same company I was ready for a new beginning. With open mind I arrived at Georgian College in Barrie. Walking into the ceramic department was like a home coming. I returned the following day and stayed for three years.
It is difficult to say why we do things, however until today I feel I’ve committed myself to clay forever. It is the fascination to make something from the most common material in the world - you dig it from the ground and creating is limitless. The other fascination is you never stop learning; it is always new it is always different. I will struggle with disappointments and enjoy successes.
It is my life I feel blessed.
